Media Awareness for Girl Guides

Girl Guide and leaderWelcome Guiders! The Media Awareness Network (MNet) has created this section, in partnership with Girl Guides of Canada, to help Canadian girls and young women develop media literacy skills.

MNet believes that Guiding can play an important role in helping young girls to respond in a more critical way to media, thereby minimizing negative influences on their self-image, gender-role expectations and family and peer relationships.

Here Guiders can find fun and engaging media activities that can be easily integrated into their programs. Simply click on the appropriate Guiding level on the right sidebar and then choose a topic that interests you.

New Girl Guides Challenge Badge

Girl Guides

MNet and the Girl Guides of Canada are currently working together to create a new Challenge badge for all levels of Guiding. The badge, to be released during National Media Education Week (November 3-7, 2008), is technology based and aimed at teaching girls and young women about internet literacy. Stay tuned for more information on this great new badge and how you can get involved.
