Advertising Standards Canada

Advertising Standards Canada (ASC) is a not-for-profit industry body committed to creating and maintaining community confidence in advertising. Its mission is to ensure the integrity and viability of advertising through industry self-regulation. ASC's corporate members include advertisers, advertising agencies, media organizations, and suppliers to the advertising industry.

ASC operates two divisions. The Standards Division administers the industry's principal self-regulatory code, the Canadian Code of Advertising Standards. It also handles complaints from consumers and special interest groups regarding advertising, and administers the industry's Trade Dispute Procedure. The Advertising Clearance Division previews advertisements in five industry categories, in order to help advertisers adhere to applicable legislation, regulatory codes and industry standards.

The clearance categories ASC is responsible for are:

  • Alcohol
  • Children's Advertising
  • Cosmetics
  • Consumer Drugs
  • Food & Non-Alcoholic Beverages
