MNet Review

videoIn a direct and engaging way, animator Patrick Jenkins and a diverse group of children demonstrate how to make various animation devices - including thaumatropes, flipbooks, praxinoscopes and zoetropes. The most basic requirements are paper, pencil and a healthy dose of imagination. The instructions are so clear, and the children's enthusiasm for the works they have created is so infectious, that the film is almost guaranteed to get all kids primed to make paper movies themselves. In the process they will learn, among other things, about the persistence of vision phenomenon, and how a simple battery can be used to make a primitive projector. The video can be used in conjunction with art, language arts and science activities. A users guide is available with the video.
